Do you ever feel down, anxious, depressed and dont know what to do? You might feel like life, or the pressures placed on you by societys expectations are weighing you down.
You might feel like you are burdening family and friends, by talking about your problems. This may then make you feel guilty therefore, you might be masking these feelings and pretending to those around you that you are ok.
When you speak to a counsellor it is different. It is a time and space for you.
About me and my practice
I understand that one size genuinely does not fit all where therapy is concerned, I work in a variety of ways and will work with you to create an individual therapy plan which is unique to you and designed specifically to your needs.
I will provide a confidential space which is free from judgement; a space where you are able to open-up and make sense of things so that you feel not only confident enough to recognise the changes you wish to make but also empowered to actually make them.
The therapy session offered are both short- and long-term therapy. This can be carried out online or over the telephone, (I do also work in-person) allowing you a higher degree of flexibility as some days may just feel a little too hard and, on those days, it may feel easier to speak online (with or without the camera on) or on the telephone. Whatever you choose, the options are all there for your comfort.
If you are struggling to deal with difficult situations, past or present. Trying to cope with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, Loss of a relationship, job, health & bereavement, relationship/family issues, childhood issues and childhood sexual issues, trauma, PTSD or anything which is causing you pain or distress. I can offer you a safe and confidential space to work through these thoughts and feelings.
Some people feel worried about opening up and talking about difficult things, we will work at your pace to build up a therapeutic relationship so we can explore what's going on for you at a pace which is right for you, to enable you to move forward in your life.
You don't have to make the journey on your own, we can work through it together.
Experience
I have worked in a primary school moving on to a secondary school where I worked for over 14 years; supporting students to year 11, some of whom had learning difficulties and disabilities. This included helping them over come barriers to learning which often means working closely with them on personal issues which affected their ability to work in school, this has included things such as anger management, self harm, improving self esteem, anxiety, bereavement etc. As a learning mentor I helped run the online counselling service offered by relate, as well as seeing students on a weekly 1-1 basis to discuss their issues and progress. I worked closely with the educational psychologist and ran small groups focusing on feelings and anxiety.
Through helping students with difficult events in their lives I then decided I wanted to train as a counsellor. I have since volunteered for a charity that offers counselling to adults often with complex needs, who couldn't otherwise access counselling due to low income.
The issues have been varied such as addictions, anxiety, depression, childhood issues, abuse, and bereavement.
I training with cruse bereavement and worked with some clients from their waiting list on a voluntary basis. Further training has been with the foundation for Infant Loss.
I have been running my own private practice since 2016 offering 1-1 counselling for individuals, couples, young people as well as working with groups. I have developed and run a Loss & Bereavement group in conjunction with Oakwood Surgery Practice Practice Health Champions, who secured funding from the big Lottery fund. My practice has expanded and I now support student counsellors through their training by offering placements to enable them to complete the 100 hrs required for them to qualify. In addition I have a number of qualified counsellors who offer counselling sessions at a reduced cost, as we are aware there are many people waiting for counselling we can provide alter
